Blue-Fronted Amazon by KristynJanelle Blue-Fronted Amazon by KristynJanelle
A portrait of Huntington, my blue-fronted amazon parrot. Used a couple references for pose, as well as my live model of course.

I love him! He's two years old now, celebrated his second hatchday in July. He's a bit of a trouble-maker, but he is also eager to learn and he's a very healthy, happy bird . And yes, I know his name is random! A lot of people question it... he's named after one of our local beaches, because my dream growing up was to be awesome and chill on the beach with my parrot. Weird dream, I know. Plus, his name just causes confusion. When I'm at Huntington Beach and tell another bird owner that my parrot is named Huntington... :XD:

Colored pencil on recycled paper, in roughly six or seven hours overall.

Also for the record... yes he does have eyelashes, as do a lot of parrots! Look closely at them. I love showing that to people because no one ever realizes that birds have eyelashes too. :)

I do commissions! See my journal : [link]

You did such an amazing job on this drawing! Amazons can be trouble-makers but so entertaining at the same time! :iconballoonsplz: In fact most any type of parrot can be a trouble maker at times! I have an African Gray parrot who is very stubborn at times and can have quite a temper! :iconsmile--plz:

Such a gorgeous guy. So are you actually near Huntington Beach as in California? I'm in Long Beach.

That's really cool. So if you want to get together sometime and talk birds...

If not, totally fine, too. Not trying to be a stalker or something. Just had no idea you were in the vicinity.

I'll have to let you know the next time I'll be heading out that way! I've kind of wanted to get a booth for art at the swapmeet at Huntington on weekends, but I don't know how it would do. I suppose I could do beach scenes. I'm decent at them but they're not my best work. Random thoughts lol sorry.

HEY not that I am nosey. We did some shows at the air force base there by cape canaveral, Patrick AFB. in November December of 2009 and we did very well you might check that out. We did not have much luck at the swap meets though. You might research the art show venues in your area.

Art Shows are probably pretty lacking in my city as it's not very cultured, haha. But I will definitely see if there are some in surrounding cities, that is a good idea. Thank you!

Random is totally fine. Swap meet sounds like super much fun. I have no idea what the art market is, and I'm quite aware that excellent art doesn't necessarily mean a thing in terms of sales. So I can't give you any judgment on whether or not it would be worth your time. But it does sound like fun.

Anyway, it would be awesome to meet sometime, someplace, between where I'm at and where you're at. And for whatever reason, it's just nice to know that another bird lover and bird I've started to get to know a little, are somewhat nearby.

Yeah I'm not sure how it would do, I think it could go both ways... but I'd like to try it sometime, maybe just for a day or something.

Yes definitely. Perhaps Huntington and I can come to Huntington together soon :lmao: He is still very young so I haven't taken him out and about frequently, much less taken him to the beach. He's good with crowds and strangers when I have parties at my house, but I don't know how he'd do in public.

I wouldn't take Henry anywhere outdoors, but he's done just fine in a few places, like visiting a friend's house, or at the vet's office with other people and animals coming in and out.

Hehe. He's a few feet behind me, sitting on his cage right now, chatting and whistling. "Gargle, gaaargle. Henry... step UP" whistle, click click, whistle, "Come here, step up, Henry." whistle little tune. Giggle chirp.

Entertaining himself and me!

Yeah Huntington does fine outdoors. His wings are clipped. They don't really need to be, as I've let them grow out before and he simply doesn't care about flying really. But it's a safety precaution for taking him outside. Now my only fear is a stray dog or passing car freaking him out if I go out into the neighborhood with him, I don't want him to be jumpy and get hurt.

Haha Huntington as well, he's saying "huh?" and "heeellloo" :XD:

your birds can be proud of you. I like the detail in the feathers at the face. By the way I mentioned the eyelashes on my two birds. They looked so cute and tiny. Although they didn't like me watching them so closely. XD
