In July, I decided to redraw one of my Blue & Gold Macaw drawings from two years prior. I wanted to see how much I had improved, and where I could continue to improve. Now, only four months later, the one I drew in July looked so flawed to me.... so I had to give it another try. July 2012 Attempt : [link] August 2010 Attempt : [link]
At the time I drew the original in 2010, I thought it was just fantastic. I was ridiculously proud of myself, and it stayed on my wall until this year, when I rejoined deviantart and started to realize I could do better. (There is no longer any version of this portrait on my wall - the Glaucous Macaw is there instead). Well, when I first redrew it I corrected a lot in relation to the anatomy, added more detail to the yellow feathering, and worked on the shading and composition a bit. Then, after a few months, I realized that I completely left out a lot of important details, such as the detailing on the feathers and beak, and the texture of the skin on the face. So here's the newest version, four months later.
Roughly 9 hours, colored pencil on recycled paper.

Again with this one it keeps your eyes attracted to it to observe in greater detail, really nice And kudos for doing this in traditional art as well which i always find impressive. The only thing i see in difference with the other white parrot is that the feathers in this one lack depth in my opinion, my eyes can't really seem to see this in perspective and his shoulder/back looks like it's flat to me. Although the drawing itself still looks stunning, and that minor thing doesn't bring down the nice look of the drawing
Thank you for the critique! I can definitely see what you're saying. I did not shade this one as drastically because I was trying to experiment with different ways of drawing feathers. It did take away from the depth, somewhat, I agree. I hadn't really noticed before.
