Cuban Red Macaw by KristynJanelle Cuban Red Macaw by KristynJanelle
The first in a series I am going to be doing, featuring extinct birds and possibly other extinct animals :)

The Cuban Red Macaw was a member of the Ara genus, alongside the Blue & Gold, Scarlet, Green-Winged, and numerous other species alive to this day. As it's name suggests, it was native to Cuba and was the last of the Caribbean macaws to go extinct, with the last known macaw dying sometime toward the end of the 1800s.

Cause of Extinction : Deforestation, hunting for food, pet trade.

Any feedback or support of this project is greatly appreciated. :)

It is very sad. There are (supposedly, not all confirmed) multiple extinct species of Macaws, unfortunately. Wish they were still here, but at least we still have lots of other beautiful parrots :)

Beautiful colors. The head seems a bit off though. Perhaps it's the perspective or the beard, but the beak seems quite tall and the back of the bird a bit flattened.

It was the perspective of the photograph that I referenced combined with the color and lighting changes - it didn't transfer quite right.

Wow, what a great picture! The colours are great and I really love your work on the feathers. :) What did you use? Prisma colour pencils? I can never really tell. Polychromos also "shine" so much.

Oh, I really love birds. With the state of our world as it is today one has to fear the loss of a lot of species. /:

I used Prismacolors, I have never heard of polychromos, perhaps they're not sold in my area because I've never seen them in any of the local art stores. :)

Yes I really do worry for the loss of other bird species, especially since there are still poachers out to make money on the black market bird trade who will just ship them carelessly and so many die along the way. Plus deforestation of course. :(

beautiful picture. The beak in very real looking with the way it reflect the light.

Pet trade is so crule, only like one bird surive out of five and they get stuffed into tiny spaces without food and water.

Glad you did the series.
